F1 Boston Winter/Spring Junior League Kick-Off: Round 1 Report
 
Braintree, MA (January 23, 2012) – The first round of F1 Boston’s Winter/Spring Junior League took place last weekend with great competition and excellent racing. Here’s a look at the highlights from the inaugural round:
 
In Group 1A Elite only three points separated the top three racers. Nikolai Gabardi took first place honors with 27 points highlighted by winning his second heat and placing second in the first, plus one fast lap bonus point. Nathan Laverdure took second one point back at 26 by winning his first heat, placing third in heat two and fifth in his final race, plus a fast lap. Joe Acero was third with 25 points for his round – highlighted by winning his final heat. Isabelle Beecy, Kevin Manning and Andrew Mega rounded out the top five, with 21 points each.
    
Group 1A, Jonathan Schores took the round by winning his first and third heats, placing third in the other as well as snagging three fast lap points for a total of 35. Second place went to Christian Rogers with 27 points fueled by winning heat three, and placing second in the first heat. Two point back of Rogers is Jake Yazijian at 25 – he had two second place results and a fifth in the middle heat. Three competitors tied for fourth place; Luke Marcheski, Austin Nelson and Ryan Haartz all earned 24 points. Haartz won his second heat, Nelson place third in all three heats and Marcheski drove to second, third and fourth place finishes.
 
Group 1B featured a huge field and very close racing – 6 points separated the top seven competitors. Top honors went to Christian Abbate by winning heat two and placing second and third in the other two, plus a fast lap point for a total of 31. Deanna Horacio and Patrick Doyle tied for second with 28 points. Horacio earned two second places and a fifth as well as three fast lap points, while Doyle won his second heat, and placed third in the other two. Corey Dron and Kendra Levesque were next at 27 points. Dron won the middle heat and placed second and third in the others and Levesque’s round was highlighted by winning her first and third heats.    
 
In Group 2AA, Dylan Villa took the top spot with 23 points fueled by winning his third heat and placing second and fourth in the first two. Austin Cederquist was next with 22 points, highlighted by winning his first heat and placing second in heat three, plus two fast lap points. Ryan Kuhn took third – placing second in the first two heats for 20 points. Matthew Stearns (19 points) and Josh Melnick (18 points) rounded out the top five; each winning a heat.
Group 2A’s Shane McCullum grabbed the top honors by winning his first two heats, placing third in the last one and earning a fast lap point for a total of 27. Roee Meyuhas was second, placing second in all three heats plus two fast laps for 26 points. Andres Albornoz earned 22 points, winning the final heat and placing third in the others. Ryan Locke and Evan Dawley rounded up out the top five with 14 and 13 points respectively.
 
In Group 2B, Jack Bennett earned 30 points to lead the pack. He won his first and third heats, placed second in the middle race and earned two fast lap points. Reagan Parent was second, winning two heats and placing fourth in heat three, plus two fast laps for 27 points. Thomas Briggs was third grabbing 22 points with two second place finishes and a third in his middle heat. Hayden Duffy was fourth with 20 points – placing second in heat two and third in the others. Ethan Kmiecik and Raymond Parent tied for fifth place with 19 points each – Parent won a heat and Kmiecik earned second and third place finishes.
 
Group 3A’s Alec Schmidt and Ronan Quinn tied for the top spot with 26 points each. Quinn won the final two heats and placed third in the first one, while Schmidt won the first heat, placed second in the middle heat and fourth in the final, plus three fast laps. Joey DeAscentis was next, earning 20 points by taking second in heat one and third in the others. Michael Pedro rounded out the scoring with 18 points.
 
In Group 3B, Nehal Ramlukan grabbed honors with 28 points, winning the first and second heats, taking second in the final and earning a fast lap point. Ryan MacDonald was second at 26 by winning the final heat and placing second and third in the others. Danielle Lawton placed third with 25 points; winning her first and third heats and also earning two fast laps. Ido Meyuhas and Alyssa Abbate both earned 22 points to tie for fourth place. Charlie Marcheski was next with 21 points.
 
Junior League competitors may enter as many rounds as desired – drivers competing for the season championships must attend at least 7 rounds. Points in each round are awarded to the by the top 10 finishers in descending order, with the drivers turning in the fastest lap in each race picking up an extra point. The top 6 drivers from each class will earn a spot in the Season Finale. Standing are updated after each event and can be found at www.F1Boston.com/league_results.htm. The League is open to all drivers with F1 Boston Junior Competition License that have completed an F1 Boston Junior Novice Racing Academy or Camp.
