2012 Jr. Winter League Rd 8 report

 

 

Braintree, MA (May 4, 2012) – Round 8 of F1 Boston’s Junior League is in the books and with only two rounds left, the race to crown season champions and qualify for the Championship Final is getting hot. The top 6 drivers from each of the 8 classes qualify for the finale. Here’s a review of the highlights:

 

     Five points separated the top five in Group 1AA. Dexter Czuba grabbed the victory – winning the final heat and placing fifth in the other two for 22 points.   Kevin Manning and Nikolai Gabardi tied for second just a point off the pace at 21. Manning won the second heat and placed fourth in the final, plus a fast lap bonus point – at 193 he keeps the top spot in the standings, 10 points ahead of the field. Gabardi’s round was highlighted by second in the final and fourth in the middle heat as well as a fast lap, he’s fifth in the points chase at 152.  Derek Creutz was next with 19 points, placing third in the final and fourth in the first heat. He is also fourth in the series standings with 159 points. Jason Cheal – second in the standings with 183 points – placed fifth with 18 points. With 168 points, Nathan Laverdure (15 points) is third in the points chase.

 

     Group 1A delivered an entertaining, hard fought round with Ryan Hartz taking honors with 24 points powered by winning his first heat, placing third in his final, plus a fast lap.  A point off the pace at 23, Christian Rogers and Danny Rounds tied for second. Rogers scored a victory in his final heat and earned two fast laps – he’s in first place 28 point ahead of the field at 203. Rounds also won his final heat and took third in his middle race. Evan Phillips and Hans Morris tied for fourth place with 21 points apiece. Luke Marcheski rounded out the top five with 20 points to remain fourth in the standings with 163 points. Jacob Richardson (16 points) is second in the series standings at 175. Jake Yazijian (15 points) is a point back at 174. At 155, Austin Nelson (18 points) is fifth for the season.

    

     The story in Group 1B’s round 8 was Karlin Levesque – she stormed to victory by winning all three of her heats, plus a fast lap point for 37 points. Next was sister Kendra Levesque, earning 25 points by placing second twice and fifth in her other heat. With 191 points, Kendra remains third on the leader board. There was a three-way tie at 24 points by Justin Rusko, Wallef Nogueira and Nicholas Hewer to round out the fast five. Rusko, who is fourth in the standings with 179, won his second heat. Nogueira’s round was highlighted by placing second in heat #1 and third in heat #3, while Hewer won his final and placed second in the middle race. With 20 points in the round, Christian Abbate remains to the leader for the season with 207 points. Brandon Haley (22 points) is second at 194. Deanna Horacio scored 23 points in round 8 and, at 178, she’s fifth for the season.

 

     For the second consecutive round, there was a tie at the top in Group 2AA. Season-leader Matthew Stearns and Ryan Kuhn matched each other with 21 points. Stearns’ round featured winning his first heat and placing second in his final, while Kuhn placed second twice. Bryce Czuba took third, a point back at 20 fueled by winning his final heat. At 18 points, Josh Melnick and Austin Cederquist tied for fourth place – the pair tied for second in round 7. Melnick, who is second in the standings at 154, won his middle heat. Cederquist placed top five in each heat and with 136 points, is third in the points chase.   Dylan Villa (15 points in the round, 132 total) and Fiachra Quinn (14 points, 127 total) are fourth and fifth in the standings, respectively.

    

     In Group 2A, Michael Toner took top honors with 30 points powered by winning his last two heats, placing second in the other, plus two fast laps. He keeps the lead in the points chase with 186. Roee Meyuhas was second, winning heat #1, placing second in heat #2 and fifth in the final.  At 173 points, Meyuhas is second on the leader board – 13 points off the lead. Evan Dawley was next with 22 points, placing second twice and fourth in the other. With 147 points, Dawley is third in the series standings.   Colin McMullen scored 20 points to land fourth, highlighted by winning his first heat. McMullen is fifth for the season, with 113 points. Cameron Dunlap was fifth with top five finishes across the board. Ryan Locke (11 points) remains fourth in the standings at 122.

    

     Reagan Parent grabbed victory in 2B – earning 27 points by winning his first and last heats, placing fourth in the other and grabbing two fast laps. With 175 points, Reagan is second in the standings. Hayden Duffy was next placing second in his last two heats and third in the first for 24 points – Duffy’s third for the season with 167 points. Standings leader Jack Bennett (195 points) was third at 23, fueled by placing second in his first and third heats; taking third in the middle race along with a fast lap. Jack George scored 22 points, placing second twice and third in the other to land fourth. Thomas Briggs rounded out the top five with 21 points highlighted by winning his first heat. Raymond Parent (163 points) and Quinn Yardley (155 points) – both with 20 points in the round – are fourth and fifth in the standings, respectively.

 

     Ronan Quinn won by a point over Alec Schmidt in Group 3A. Quinn – second for the season with 180 points – won the middle heat, placed second and third in the others, plus two fast laps to earn 26 points. Schmidt grabbed 25 points, highlighted by winning the first and final heats. With 195 points, he’s tops in the standings. Michael Pedro was third with 21 points, placing second in the final two heats. Pedro is fourth in the standings with 114 points. Mason Lukowski rounded out the scoring with 18 points, he’s fifth for the season with 68 points. Joey DeAscentis holds the third spot in the standings at 144.

    

     There was a tie for top honors in 3B with Charlie Marcheski and Danielle Lawton each earning 21. Marcheski’s round featured winning the middle heat and placing second in heat #1; he’s second for the series with 159 points (9 back of leader Ryan MacDonald). Lawton – third for the season with 155 – placed top five in all three heats, plus two fast lap bonus points. At 20 points each, Ido Meyuhas and Aiden Jennette tied for third. Meyuhas’ round featured a win in the final heat; Jennette went top five across the board. Nehal Ramlukan was fifth with 19 points including a win in the first heat and a fast lap. Ramlukan is fourth in the standings with 151 points. With 139 points, Alyssa Abbate (17 points) is fifth for the season.

 

     Junior League competitors may enter as many rounds as desired – drivers competing for the season championships must attend at least 7 rounds. Points in each round are awarded to the by the top 10 finishers in descending order, with the drivers turning in the fastest lap in each race picking up an extra point. The top 6 drivers from each class will earn a spot in the Season Finale. Standing are updated after each event and can be found at www.F1Boston.com/league_results.htm. The League is open to all drivers with F1 Boston Junior Competition License that have completed an F1 Boston Junior Novice Racing Academy or Camp.
