South Yarmouth, MA) - Perfect weather, a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces, sizeable checks for community organizations and an exciting race finish were highlights of Saturday’s Tenth Annual Seaside Le Mans - The Race for the Cape Cod Community at Mashpee Commons. The race began with a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces featuring a performance by the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, followed by an opening ceremony with an honor guard, national anthem and U.S.
Coast Guard flyover. Thirteen teams raced for four hours, then the top six teams competed in a 30 minute final to determine the winners. Finishing in the top spot was the combined team of P.K.M. Contractors and C.C. Construction, both of Dennis, MA. Second place went to the team of Shepley Andersen Eagle, A&E Forms and Cape Cod Times. And third place winners were the Six Strangers team including racers from Triad Advertising, TriMark United East and Joe Finnemore Housewright. The Fastest Lap trophy was awarded to the Horizon Beverage Company/Upper Crust Pizzeria team and the Bank Cup went to TD Bank. The sportsmanship award was presented to Cape Cod Aggregates who generously donated all six driver spots on their team to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The media race was won by Mike Rabideau of Cape Cod Magazine, with Susan Mabile from the Cape Cod Times taking second and Sarah Colvin of WQRC placing third. Although the competition was often spirited, all teams agree that the true winners of this race are the beneficiary organizations and the Cape Cod community overall. Donations are sent to the Cape Cod Foundation, which in turn distributes the funds to this year’s beneficiaries: American Red Cross, Cape Cod & Islands Chapter; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands; Cape Cod Hunger Network and Tri-County Collaborative for Oral Health Excellence. Each beneficiary was presented with a check for $30,000 at the end of the race. Between kart sponsorships and matching contributions, over $2.86 million has been raised by the fundraiser in the past ten years, with all funds directly benefiting the Cape Cod community. Unique among fundraisers, 100% of sponsorship dollars go directly to the chosen beneficiaries since The Davenport Companies covers all event related costs, working closely with F1 Boston to organize and manage the race.
Plans are already underway for the Eleventh Annual Seaside Le Mans which is scheduled for next September. For more information on the race and sponsorship opportunities, please contact DeWitt Davenport or Beth Patkoske at 508-398-2293 or visit www.seasidelemans.org.
Established in 1956, The Davenport Companies remain family owned and operated. The South Yarmouth-based operation has evolved into a real estate holding and investment company with businesses in the hospitality, services and real estate industries.
