F1 Boston’s Winter Adult League Kicks-Off with Rookie Class Round One

Braintree, MA (January 20, 2011) – Round one of F1 Boston’s Adult Rookie League took place on Monday, marking the kick-off of the Winter Racing season.  The inaugural round featured great competition across both the heavyweight and lightweight divisions. Here’s a round up of the action:

Heavy Weight Division
In the heavyweight division, tight racing took place among the top three drivers – only four points separated the group. Stephan Rumpuni took top honors by placing third in two heats and a fourth in the other, in addition to earning 2 fast lap bonus points, for a total of 30. Michael Egasti was second, winning two heats and a fast lap for 29 points. Samual Bradley came in third with 27 points, highlighted by winning his third heat. Wayne Penn was fourth, earning 24 points. Fifth place was a logjam at 18 points by David Olbrych, David Roger and Sam Soderstrom.

Light Weight Division
The lightweight division also was a close points chase. Sean Neal prevailed with 41 points powered by winning his first two heats and taking second in the final, plus a fast lap point. Just a point off the pace was Jonathan Zombeck, placing second in the first two heats and winning his final race, plus two fast laps. Third place went to Toby Bloom - he placed second and third in the first two and won his final heat and earned two fast lap points for a total of 38. Steven Carvalho took fourth with 26 points and Anthony Cuddemi rounded out the fast five with 23 points.

The F1 Boston Adult Winter League offers racing in three classes: Pro, Sprint and Rookie. All three offer six rounds of competition – each round features a practice session and three races – points are earned towards a season ending Final Championship Race, with the top 6 drivers in each weight class advancing to the Finals. The format includes one race drop; five of the six rounds count towards determining who makes it to the Championships. All races take place at F1 Boston, a state-of-the-art facility featuring two top-notch, European styled courses. Here are the current Rookie League standings:
