F1 Boston’s Winter Adult Sprint League: Round Two Report
Braintree, MA (February 14, 2012) – Round two of F1 Boston’s Winter Adult Sprint League was held on
February 6th featuring some very close and exciting racing. Here’s a peak at the highlights:Heavy Weight Division
In the heavyweight division the competition at the top was tight, with only 5 points separating the first 4 racers. Mark Morin took honors – highlighted by winning his first and third heats, as well as earning a fast lap bonus point for a total of 34. The victory puts him in a 3-way tied for second in the standings with John Hintze and Robert Bain, each with 59 points. David Burton was next by grabbing second his first and third heats, fourth in his middle race and a fast lap for 33 points. He’s fifth in the season-long standings. Robert Bain was third, fueled by 2 second place finishes and a fast lap for 31 points. John Chetwynd took fourth by placing third in all of his races for 30 points. Chetwynd is on top of the season standings, just a point in front of the next three competitors at 60. John Hintze rounded out the top five with 27 points, including a victory in his second heat.
Light Weight Division
Steve Hathaway has been dominant in the first two rounds of lightweight competition. Following up his 43-point first round, Hathaway earned 41 in round two by winning his final two heats and placing second in his first, plus a fast lap. He’s leading the standings with 84 points – 32 points in front of the field. Nicholas Leung took second by winning his first heat, placing third and fourth in the next two for 32 points. He’s also second in the standings at 52 points. Next was Nathan Hedberg with 25 points highlighted by grabbing second in his first heat and fifth in the others, plus a fast lap. Hedberg is third in the season points race at 50. Gabriel Ash, Mike Geer and Kevin Willever all earned 22 points to create a three-way logjam for fourth place. Willever’s fourth in the standings with 49 points, while Ash shares fifth with Steve Maka at 45.
Round three for the Sprint League is slated for February 20th. The F1 Boston Adult Winter League offers racing in three classes: Pro, Sprint and Rookie. Each class offers six rounds of competition – rounds include a practice session and three races. Points are earned towards a season-ending Final Championship Race, with the top 6 drivers in each weight class advancing to the Finals. The format includes one race drop; five of the six rounds count towards determining who makes it to the Championships. All races take place at F1 Boston, a state-of-the-art facility featuring two top-notch, European styled courses. Here are the current Pro League standings:
