Alexandra Gamache Repeats as Champion in F1 Outdoors’
2nd Annual Ironman Endurance Race
East Bridgewater, Mass. (November 3, 2010) – It was a great day of racing last Sunday at F1 Outdoors as the 2010 Ironman Endurance Race took place. Ironically, the Ironman is a young lady, 15-year old Alex Gamache. Even more impressive, it’s a repeat championship for her – as she also prevailed in last year’s Ironman. Unlike traditional endurance race formats, the Ironman features a field of individual drivers with just one kart, one pit stop for fuel and one set of tires in a 125-lap shoot-out.
In a great contest, Gamache covered the 125 laps in 1:38:06.079, just 29.928 seconds better than 2nd place finisher Ricardo Nunes. They were the only two competitors to cover the full 125. Jay Hanscom completed 121 laps to earn a place on the podium. Steve Sarnecki (119 laps) and Steve Hathaway (117 laps) rounded out the top 5 in a race that featured a field of 22.
Although young, Gamache is a seasoned competitor – she’s honed her skills in the New England RMax Challenge at F1 Outdoors and other regional tracks, and started her career learning the ropes at F1 Boston. She’s also a member of Lyn St. James’ Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation’s “Complete Driver Academy”.
